RIP Jerry McDonnell Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jerry McDonnell, Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol.
Jerry's involvement with Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol dates back to 1984 and continued until his retirement as an officer in 2023. During this time Jerry held various positions including Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol Chairperson (1991-1992), Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol Vice Chair (1990), Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol Treasurer (2000-2023), Munster Cumann na mBunscol secretary (1991 - 2007), Munster Cumann na mBunscol delegate (1991 - 2007), National Cumann na mBunscol delegate 2002 and Tipperary County Board Delegate (1996 - 2023).
Jerry was instrumental in the creation and development of the hugely successful Equipment Scheme which still exists today. Jerry was also at the forefront of establishing the Primary Game, in its current format, with his fellow Munster Officers. Jerry played a key role in promoting activities on the field - he was central to the establishment of competitions for Under 13 Boys and Girls and later Under 11 Competitions.
Jerry retired from teaching in 2009 but his commitment to Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol activities was clearly evident as he stayed on as treasurer until 2023.
