CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL PIECE FOR MARCH/APRIL 2021 INTO INTOUCH PIECE

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT – DOON CBS

Doon CBS has long been associated with the promotion of Gaelic games. This was driven for years by the now famous Brother Dormer. Hurling in particular was and is always popular in the primary school and bringing your hurley and helmet to school is nearly just as important as your school bag.

In Doon CBS we try to have an inclusive policy when it comes to Gaelic games. All pupils are encouraged to take part and play an active role to the best of their ability. In our school we run highly successful yard leagues where everyone who wishes, gets to participate. These leagues really help develop the skill level of all children.
Like most schools in Limerick, we avail of the brilliant coaching from our local Games Development Officers. Ollie Coffey has been coming to Doon for years and has developed a great report with all the kids. In 2020, Ollie retired and though he will be missed we looked forward to working with his successor.

In Doon, we have entered the Cumann na mBunscol awards over the years. Thankfully, we have been successful on one or two occasions, a great acknowledgement of the promotion and development of Gaelic Games in our school. In Doon, we hope to continue coaching and developing the young players that come through our gates and like Pat Ryan & Barry Murphy, hopefully we can provide some more All Ireland winners to Limerick.
