West Limerick win Larkin Shield   30/11/2017

The curtain came down on the Allainz Cumann na mBunscol Luimnigh football season when two Interdivisional Finals were played under lights in the Gaelic Grounds on Tuesday November 28th.

West Limerick won the Larkin Shield defeating East Limerick in a thrilling final.

The Larkin Shield, a welcome addition to the Cumann na mBunscol calendar of events, was donated by St. Nessan’s N.S. ,Mungret to honour the memory of Patrick Larkin, a former Principal teacher in the school and  a man who influenced the entire community with his love for education, Irish culture and Gaelic Games. Under his leadership, Mungret N.S. won the Limerick Leader  Cup on a number of occasions.

A native of Bridgetown, Co. Clare, Patrick Larkin was killed in a traffic accident as he cycled home from school in 1932.
