No rest in November in Limerick!   07/11/2017

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Luimnigh News November 2017

Now that the Divisional leagues are almost all concluded, attention turns to the County competitions as the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol season reaches a climax.

‘Without a doubt, we are fortunate to have Mick Neville Park available to us for our county competitions, and we appreciate the co operation we receive from Limerick County Board and its Games Manager Noel Hartigan,’ says Brother James Dormer who is Runaí of Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Luimnigh.

The first competition on the agenda is the County Football Shield  on Friday November 10th. St Mary’s BNS from Abbeyfeale will put their title on the line.  Limerick Leader Cup holders Doon CBS won the East 15 a side title and would love to add the football crown to their hurling trophy.  They are not to be underestimated.

St Patrick’s NS from Bruree have enjoyed many successes on the playing fields in 2017 and would like to finish the year on a high note. The City finals have not been concluded at time of writing.

On Monday next, November 13th,  the blue riband of Girls football, the Celtic Image Shield, takes centre stage.

‘Girls Football has been the success story of the GAA over the last decade,’ says Joe Lyons,  Cathaoirleach of  Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Luimnigh, ‘and the standard of skill that will be on display next Monday augurs well for the future of the game in Limerick.’

Scoil Dean Cussen from Bruff represent South Limerick while Mahoonagh NS will be West Limerick standard  bearers. Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh from Roxborough were impressive winners of the Girls Football title in East Limerick and have a great record in this competition. The City will be represented by St Nessan’s NS from Mungret or Milford NS. St Nessan’s are the holders of this title but Milford NS have a great tradition also.

On Tuesday next, November 14th, the interdivisional boys’ football competition, the Sarsfiedl Cup, will take place at the Rathkeale venue. West Limerick are holders and they play  East  Limerick in the semi –final. South Limerick take on Limerick City in the other semi- final.

On Thursday November 16th, the Larkin Shield, the Interdivisional Girls football competition will take place.  Holders Limerick City put their title on the line against the 2016 runners –up East Limerick while West Limerick meet South Limerick in the other semi final.

‘The weather may be getting colder but things are hotting on the playing fields as titles are decided and trophies handed out,’ says Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chairman Joe Lyons.
